The Philippine Academy of Vascular and Interventional Neurology (PAVIN) offers a prestigious designation, "Fellow of the Philippine Academy of Vascular and Interventional Neurology" (FPAVIN), to recognize members who demonstrate dedication, contribution, and commitment to advancing the field in the Philippines. This designation signifies professional excellence and active engagement within the field and the Academy itself.

Pathways to Fellowship

There are several pathways through which a member may be conferred the FPAVIN title:

  • Founding Incorporator: Individuals who were original founders and incorporators are automatically recognized as Fellows due to their foundational contributions.

  • Full Membership Pathway: Full Members in good standing can achieve fellowship by demonstrating at least three consecutive years of active participation in PAVIN's scientific, educational, or organizational activities. Crucially, they must also be certified as a Vascular Neurologist by the Philippine Neurological Association (PNA) at the time of application and throughout their fellowship. Active participation includes consistent attendance at PAVIN events, presenting research, involvement in committees, publishing peer-reviewed articles, and participating in educational programs.

  • Honorary Fellowship: This title may be conferred upon individuals, including non-members, who have made significant contributions to the field of vascular and interventional neurology. This is granted at the full discretion and unanimous approval of the Board of Directors, and honorary fellows are not required to meet certification or membership criteria, but are expected to uphold the Academy's values.

Application and Approval Process

Applications or nominations for Fellowship undergo a thorough review and vetting process by a designated committee before being submitted to the Board of Directors for final approval. For Full Members applying, documentation typically includes a detailed curriculum vitae (CV) highlighting qualifications and contributions, evidence of active PAVIN participation, and potentially letters of recommendation. The conferment of Fellow status is officially recognized through a formal resolution and celebration during the Academy’s annual convention or a special convocation.

Use of Title and Revocation

Fellows are entitled to use the post-nominal designation “FPAVIN”, which serves as a professional and honorary distinction to be used responsibly.

It is important to note that Fellowship status is conditional and revocable. Automatic revocation occurs if the Fellow’s PNA certification as a Vascular Neurologist is revoked, suspended, or not renewed. The Board of Directors also reserves the right to revoke status for ethical violations, misconduct, or actions that bring disrepute to the Academy, following due process. Failure to maintain good standing as a PAVIN member, including non-payment of dues, can also lead to revocation. A Fellow may also voluntarily relinquish the title.

Reinstatement for former Fellows whose status was revoked due to certification lapse is possible upon renewal of certification and meeting any additional Board requirements, though reinstatement is subject to review and not guaranteed. These comprehensive guidelines are subject to periodic review and amendment by the Board of Directors to ensure they reflect the evolving standards and goals of the Academy.
